A few people asked how long it takes to insert and remove my Scleral Lens. So here is my test:
I also wanted to note some of the changes I've added to my routine.
One is that I've added doing a quick eyelid wash with either SteriLid or generic baby shampoo, either in the morning or at night daily. I've developed 2 styes the past year, I think due to some new drops I tested. So I figured that cleaning the lids daily would be a good idea.
The second is that I now make my own eye patch. I use DuraLar clear plastic sheets, Nexcare waterproof tape (for padding the sharp edges), and elastic string. This winter has been very dry, and these homemade patches have done more to protect the uncovered parts of my sclera better than moisture chamber /motorcycle glasses. Can't wait for summer so I don't need anything but my scleral lens and drops. Eventually the plan is to move South!
Stuff I still use:
Drops - Theratears preservative free works the longest, but this winter Blink Contacts drops come in a small bottle I can carry in a pocket and has been working best.
Saline - Unisol 4 or Addipak vials
Bandages & tape - Nexcare waterproof, latex free
Wiley Airrage
At night:
-Chew multiple Omega-3 Gummies, or drink key lime formula. I don't think it helps, but I've become addicted to the gummies.
-Drip saline in my eye (helps break any suction). Remove scleral with wet plunger.
-Soak lens in clear care in container overnight.
-Bandage eye with Nexcare waterproof active cushion bandage. Bandage is first wetted with sterile saline.
Morning:
-Remove bandage. Drip some unisol 4 in eye.
-Shower and clean around eyes with SteriLid or baby shampoo
-Fill Scleral with Unisol 4
-Insert with plunger. Takes 30 seconds. Repeat if necessary (every 5 days I have a bad day where it takes 3 or 4 tries. Otherwise usually goes in first try). Done is less than 10 minutes.
Turn lens so dots are at top, and wet with drops
-Insert more drops every 30-60 minutes.
Weekly:
Wash & disinfect plungers and containers.

Both videos below are the same video. One is just sideways (better viewing for smartphone users). This video made as I was getting ready to go to bed after a long day of wear.
